- QUITLINE IOWA
2006 Iowa Adult Tobacco Survey, conducted by the Center for Social and Behavioral Research at the University of Northern Iowa, showed that 75% of adult tobacco users in Iowa would like to quit using tobacco completely. Quitline Iowa was created to help them do just that.
Quitline Iowa is the state's smoking-cessation hotline for all Iowans. Counselors are available from 8AM to 12PM seven days a week and free services are provided in many languages. Callers receive guidance and support on quitting, referrals to local cessation services, information through the mail, and follow-up calls to assist in efforts to quit.
In the first week after the $1 increase to Iowa's tobacco tax, calls to Quitline Iowa doubled. This resource is free and it works. In fact, using resources such as these can double a person's chances of successfully quitting.
